How to Navigate the Cruise Conference

A floating event venue poses some unique challenges and twists on the typical suggestions for running a conference at a convention center. Even experienced event managers can miss seeing how a cruise conference differs from a convention center conference, according to an article by Lisa Apolinski. Apolinski is slated to be a media partner and keynote speaker at the Digimarcon Cruise in April, and will help run the conference.

Some of Apolinski’s tips are practical, such as making sure you anticipate last-minute needs, like extra printed materials, while you’re still in port, and taking advantage of having attendees in the same space for 7 days. Other strategies are all about the on-board experience. For example, wear comfy shoes during your presentation in case the stage starts rocking, and remember to wash your hands frequently (which opens up a whole different discussion about cruise vs. convention center).
