How to Secure Your Event Data

Everything is going digital from from calendars to trade show registration, . Digitally stored data can be easily managed by using the Internet and technology but can be vulnerable to information theft. Both you and your vendors should be equally concerned about the security of your event data. Be sure to ask the right questions to secure your data. If your vendor doesn’t seem to care, you should probably do business elsewhere. Traci Browne offers tips for ways you can ensure event data is secure in her article, “How Secure is Your Event Data.

  1. Ensure your vendors are PCI compliant.
  2. A vendor’s Report On Compliance (ROC) should be readily available for customers to review.
  3. Ask further questions about additional assessments your vendors have done to test data security.
  4. Mobile apps are high risk for phishing scams. If your vendor wants to use a mobile app for collecting data, check to see if it is password protected. Additionally, if there is a security breach in the mobile app, the vendor should have a plan implemented to notify you.

Being proactive with your vendor is the best way to minimize the risk of a breach in security.
