Incorporating Water into your Trade Show Design

Incorporating water elements, like waterfalls, into your trade show booth design can greatly enhance your exhibit. However, it is important to evaluate the risks if something goes wrong. Kristan Obeng of Exhibit City News, recently posted an article discussing the advantages and disadvantages of having water as part of your trade show booth design.

Benefits of using water

  • Water draws attention immediately. Your brand may be able to capitalize and generate sales from the publicity and buzz by incorporating a water wall or water show into your trade show exhibit.
  • Water can also leave a lasting impression for your booth visitors. Water features should not distract visitors from your main goal/message. For example, your booth staff could use your water elements to demonstrate waterproof electronics cases.

Disadvantages of using water

  • Fluid leaks can happen. Punctured containers during transportation or installation could be a recipe for disaster. Double check that your booth materials and wires are waterproof. If they aren’t, have a second set on hand.
  • Not every venue has the same rules. Check with each venue you plan to exhibit at to ensure you comply with their rules on using water in your exhibit.

Kristan recommends to practice setting up and breaking down your displays leading up to the trade show. Every staff member working your event should receive proper training for setting up your exhibit and breaking it down. Develop a contingency plan for if and when something goes wrong when you use water at your next trade show event.
