Life-Saving Training Pays Off at Pasadena Convention Center

Trade Show News Network tells the story of two public safety officers, Zabrina Patterson and Max Pitpan, who quickly responded to urgent calls for help that came through on their hand-held radios. It happened last October 2014 at the Pasadena Convention Center, when a co-worker unexpectedly experienced a serious medical emergency.

Luckily, the Pasadena Center Operating Company (PCOC) had provided Patterson and Piitpan with the skills and knowledge necessary to save a life, as part of their regular training for employment. The two worked together to assess the victim and secure the scene. They called paramedics and got the automated external defibrillator (AED) into operation, in case there was a need to treat a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA usually causes death if not treated within minutes.

Peter DeClerk, operations manager for the PCOC reported that one of the first paramedics on the scene said Pitpan and Patterson “probably saved their co-worker’s life.” The event staff at PCOC is trained to respond to accidents and injuries, and they are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), AED and first aid.

The PCOC were presented with the X-Cellence Award by the PCOC for their heroic actions. The award is presented quarterly to recognize world-class service of employees.
