Maximize Your Next Online Meeting

Online meetings are quickly becoming the norm due to the rise of technology and growing virtual workforce. However, they can prove to be counterproductive if not planned properly. Sabrina George, VP of Marketing at Onstream Media & Infinite Conferencing, shares her tips on how to make sure your time is well spent.

  1. Watch the clock. Prior to the meeting, send an agenda outlining the main points and allow everyone to prepare reports ahead of time. Let everyone know exactly how much time they have to talk, and don’t forget to allot extra time for questions and feedback.
  1. Pick a leader. Designate one person in charge of setting the agenda, starting the meeting, and keeping things moving. Meeting lengths will depend on the amount of material, but a good range to keep in mind is 20 to 30 minutes.
  1. Keep everyone connected. Ask for input and allow attendees to share information. Ask senior members or those in higher positions to speak first, giving other employees ideas on how to respond appropriately.
  1. Resist over-multitasking. Always stay focused on the meeting. Avoid extraneous emails, tasks, or assignments.
  1. Control your sound. First, choose a quiet location where nothing around you will be picked up on the microphone. Take the time to monitor the controls on your online conference software, and don’t forget to silence your personal devices.
