Promote Your Next Event on Snapchat

In just four years, Snapchat has become one of the biggest social media outlets worldwide with over 100 million active users and 7 billion views per day. Many companies don’t realize the powerful business applications associated with the growing platform. Danna Schwerdt, Creative Marketing Specialist at Underboeck Software International, explains how event marketers can harness the new technology to promote trade shows.

Snapchat users typically interact with the application on a daily basis. It’s a quick and intuitive platform for sharing photos and videos with multiple contacts. It also includes instant messaging, video calls, and geolocation features. Large corporations are using Snapchat as an outlet for news, entertainment, and information. Companies like CNN, the Wall Street Journal, ESPN, and Buzzfeed curate video content specifically for the platform.

For the events industry, Snapchat is currently an under-utilized marketing tool. Bizzabo reports that a mere 3% of organizations are using it to promote events. A useful feature for event marketers is the ability to create custom filters, which are location-based stamps that will appear to all users at a given trade show. You can submit your own design and choose a specific day and length of time that the filter will be active. Marketers can also utilize Snapchat to hold contests, showcase new products, and give customers an inside look at your company. It’s a great way to get exposure, create pre-event buzz, build connections with potential customers, and promote your company in a more interactive way.
