Tips for Shipping Internationally

International shipping can present unexpected challenges for exhibitors. In a quick-read infographic, EXHIBITOR Online offers opinions and advice on international shipping from 10 exhibit-industry experts. Here are just a few of their don’t-miss tips:

  • Using FedEx or UPS for international shipping is not the same as within the U.S. Follow customs-entry formalities for the country or region.
  • Cindy McCormick, CTSM, senior manager, convention marketing, Novo Nordisk A/S has all of her exhibits built in the trade show’s host country – too many things can go wrong when shipping exhibits internationally.
  • As an exhibitor, make sure the shipping company provides you with the correct documentation for importing and exporting.
  • Look at the costs for “all the pieces of the international exhibit pie,” not just the costs of moving the shipment, says Dorene Kolb, director, marketing and sales support, Lynden, Inc.
  • Take control, especially if this is your first experience with international shipping. Otherwise, you can expect everyone in the supply chain to take advantage of what you don’t know.

One of the best tips on shipping exhibits internationally comes from Sean Roberts, founder of Standingstonez, who advises you to trust the pros. “Work with people who have been there and done that.”
