Purchasing and owning a trade show booth is not for everyone. Some companies simply don’t have the budget for it. Depending on the frequency of trade shows you attend, renting an exhibit might be the more cost effective option.

Opting for a rented space allows you to determine display costs upfront. Rented exhibits are typically bundled with other booth pieces such as design elements, booth hardware, custom graphics, freight, set-up and dismantle.

Consider these tips if you are unsure if you should rent a trade show booth.

Frequency. Renting a booth is ideal if you attend one or two trade shows a year. If you are planning to attend more than three events per year, purchasing a booth is the more cost effective route.

Booth Size. Shipping your booth can be very expensive, especially if shipping internationally. Renting an entire exhibit for an event may be cheaper than paying for shipping. Be sure to do your research before you decide to ship everything.

Booth Presence. Look to renting If some trade shows require a more significant presence than other events. You can expand and enhance your booth with rented pieces instead of buying an all new exhibit.

Pre-Owned. Search for warehouse sales before you purchase a custom trade show booth. There is a chance that you can find used exhibit materials that can be refurbished to match your theme.

New Market. If you are entering a new market you might want to start with a rented booth. A rental allows you to experiment and determine if purchasing a trade show booth is worth the investment.

If you decide to rent your trade show exhibit, make sure you have read the booth requirements in the exhibitors guide for your upcoming event. Rental options are usually included in the guide. Saving money with rentals may also increase the number of yearly events you are able to attend.
